Volunteers
This page is dedicated to Cleveland Pools volunteers and contains a variety of information, references and links to support you whilst you volunteer with us.
We are so appreciative of our amazing team of volunteers, who have played such an important role in the development and reopening of the Pools so far. Thank you for volunteering with us, we hope you enjoy your involvement and here’s a reminder of some of the benefits of volunteering with Cleveland Pools:
As a volunteer with the Cleveland Pools, you will benefit from a reduced entrance fee of £4.
It is known that participation in community life can create shared interests, experiences and friendships.
Volunteering can have a significant positive effect on our wellbeing.
Contributing to a local project helps us to give something back and stay connected to our local community.
You might learn new skills and acquire new experiences, which can enhance self-esteem and provide a sense of achievement.
You are likely to meet new people, increasing social interaction and building connections, particularly through the regular volunteer socials.
Cleveland Pools volunteers will remain as volunteers and as such you will not be asked to do anything that is a paid role within Fusion.

How you can help
In addition to the projects below, ongoing help is always needed with external events, adding supporter information to our database, distributing our walking trails to community centres and fundraising. Please contact mary@clevelandpools.org.uk if you have time to spare and would like to do more.
Maintenance sessions - First Tuesday of every month at 12.45pm to 2.45pm
If you fancy some gardening in a beautiful setting and a free swim at the end of it come join our monthly site maintenance sessions. Our initial aim is to make sure we keep things looking fab but longer term we will be building in other activities like seed sowing and nature conservation. Drop us an email if you would like to come along Gardenvols@clevelandpools.org.uk and Jo Lewthwaite will get back to you.
Fundraising talks and tours
Sally Helvey gives regular talks about the Pools and always welcomes help to sell merchandise and answer general questions about the Pools before and after the talks. There are several venues and dates already in the diary, and you can offer to help out as often as you like. If you would like to know more, please contact Sally on TalksandTours@clevelandpools.org.uk If you haven’t heard Sally’s talk before, this is a great way to learn more about the Pools.
Help is also needed with tours of the pools. Both Sally and Anna Carling run these tours and would always welcome help to set up.
Welcome volunteers for event days on and off site
As well as large events like heritage open days we also run regular community group tours and other small family focused events. It would be wonderful to have your help at these sessions. Dates are shared with volunteers by email on a regular basis. Some events also take place off site.
Supporting our cold water swimming community
Cold water swimming is increasingly popular and we have created a wonderful community of cold water swimmers at the pools. Volunteers have been trained to act as informal buddies and we also have a Whats app group, coordinated by Dionne Pemberton. You can join the group using this link.
Local history lessons at the pools
We run local history lessons for junior schools onsite focused on the pools heritage. Help is always needed to welcome the children to site and encourage them to participate in the history activities. To get involved contact mary@clevelandpools.org.uk
Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) Curious Club
Curious Club sessions encourage STEM learning using fun experiment based activities. They can be run for school groups or as open sessions. To get involved in running or supporting these sessions contact Fran Zuch CuriousClub@clevelandpools.org.uk
Cleveland Pools’ Archive
This team maintain our archive of images, objects and oral histories of the Pools. The Trust is currently advertising for a new Learning and Engagement Trustee who will lead on this work and be setting up a working group. If you would like to get involved please contact mary@clevelandpools.org.uk.
The Memory Pool
To add to the archive, we have been running The Memory Pool project, a series of community drop-in events recording memories of those who have used the pools in the past. This team also respond to individual offers to share memories. To help out or find out more contact MemoryPool@clevelandpools.org.uk and Caroline Ross will get back to you.
