CLEVELAND POOLS UPDATE - SPRING 2023

Spring is upon us and we're pleased to say we're now taking the final few big steps before that wonderful day when we can throw open our doors to the public.
Here's the latest on where we are...

Pontoon – The pontoon is a key element of our vision for the pools and will serve two important functions. Firstly, it will allow visitors to access the site from the river, and secondly, the river pump to heat the pools will sit underneath it. The contract to build the pontoon has been signed and building work has now started. It is due to be delivered in the coming months and then will be fitted.

Management Transfer - Cleveland Pools Trust is in the legal process of transferring management of the Pools to the operator Fusion Lifestyle and that should be completed shortly.

Flooding - Heavy rain during the winter resulted in many areas being flooded and unfortunately this included Cleveland Pools. Whilst this sounds dramatic, the site was designed knowing the area is prone to flooding from time to time. Once the water subsided, the pools were drained, cleaned and everything is working again as normal. A big thank you to Fusion Lifestyle and to all the volunteers who helped clean up.

Community Group Visits and Swim Plans

In the last few weeks, we’ve hosted the University of the Third Age learning more about the site architecture (pictured below), a local walking group run by the charity Mind, who were the first people to see the Pools refilled after the recent floods, The Genesis Trust, Three Ways School and the charity - Bath Welcomes Refugees.

We're continuing to engage with the local community and the number of groups eager to visit the Pools continues to grow week on week.

Cleveland Pools Trust Wins Award
We are delighted to announce that on 10th May, we won a prestigious Museum and Heritage Award in the Restoration or Conservation Project of the Year category!
The judges acknowledged the ‘grit & determination’ of everyone involved in the 20-year campaign to save the pools, recognising the unique challenges of the site & the exceptional community that made this restoration project possible. Thank you to all of our supporters. We are grateful to project contributors Beard Construct and Provelio for supporting the Trust’s attendance at the awards. Thanks also to National Lottery players and the Heritage Fund UK. You can read more about the short-listed projects here.

That concludes our latest news update, we’ll leave you with one of our favourite photos of the Pools sparkling in the sunshine back in September. We look forward to connecting with you again soon.
